18th British Legal History Conference 2007

As announced at last British Legal History Conference in London, the
next British Legal History Conference will be held in Oxford, the venue
for the successful Tenth British Legal History Conference organized by
the late Peter Birks. It will run from Monday 2 July to Thursday 5 July
and will be based (as was the Tenth Conference) at St Catherine’s
College. The organizers of the Conference will be Paul Brand of All
Souls College and Joshua Getzler and Michael Macnair of St Hugh’s College.

The overall theme of the Conference is ‘Judges and Judging’. We plan to
have three plenary sessions with papers by Paul Brand, John Langbein and
Michael Lobban on aspects of this general theme. Proposals for other
shorter papers on this theme are particularly encouraged but as is
customary, work of quality in any field of British and related Legal
History will be considered. Proposals should consist of a short synopsis
of the proposed paper, of no more than 500 words. Proposals should be
submitted no later than 30 September 2006 to Dr Brand by email
or by post to him at All Souls College,
Oxford OX1 4AL. The organizers will then consider proposals as a group.

Summer accommodation in Oxford is at a premium. We are fortunate to have
been able to block book 150 rooms in St Catherine’s for the duration of
the conference. Further details and a booking form will be available
closer to the date of the conference.
